Brown was joined on board by the Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group Richard Fain and President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International Michael bayley. The occasion also marked a historic moment for the decades-long tradition of godmothers as Brown becomes the cruise company’s first Bahamian godmother.
âToday we can show the world what imagination and determination look like when they come together,â Fain said. âEverything our teams have done over the past 20 months has brought us to this moment where we can finally show the innovation and beauty of Odyssey of the seas. “
A 17-year-old change agent for people living with a disability in The Bahamas, Brown is a mother and cancer survivor. The longtime athlete was diagnosed with stage 4 osteosarcoma – bone cancer – in 2004. It was more than a year later, after receiving treatment, that Brown made the decision to amputate his leg above the knee. After watching his own mother fight cancer-linked lupus for five years, The odyssey Godmother was determined to come back stronger than ever for herself, her family, and others who could be inspired to fight. Brown became the first Bahamian paratriathlete to train at the US Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and compete in a Paralympic Games qualifier. In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Brown is a longtime advocate for people with disabilities and works at the University of The Bahamas as a compliance officer and adviser on increasing access and opportunities for students with disabilities.
âIt is our honor to welcome Erin as the first patron of the Bahamas,â said Bayley. “She is an incredible person pushing to change the status quo, which makes her the perfect choice for a ship as innovative as Odysseyseas. It is also appropriate because the Bahamas has been our great partner and neighbor since Royal Caribbean set sail for the islands over 50 years ago.
Royal Caribbean cruises visited the Bahamas and the Caribbean for 52 years and over. Year after year, guests of all ages can set sail to explore the region’s beautiful destinations. In June, The Bahamas This is where Royal Caribbean’s first Western Hemisphere cruise departed after more than a 15-month hiatus.
Full screen at the official christening ceremony was Odyssey himself. The first Quantum Ultra Class ship in North America offers a combination of exciting new experiences and iconic adventures that customers know and love. Highlights include a vibrant resort style pool deck inspired by the Caribbean, new Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, Teppanyaki, the restaurant that serves the flavors of the Far East and makes its North America start; and unique entertainment that pushes the limits of the imagination in the high-tech place Two70 and the Royal Theater.
âI am extremely grateful to have been chosen as the godmother of Odyssey of the seas“Brown said.” As a proud Bahamian, it is an honor to also represent The Bahamas and share my story with so many others. My experiences have allowed me to reinvent myself and transform my life, and I am committed to helping others do the same.
This winter and early 2022, Odyssey welcomes families and travelers of all ages on 6 and 8 night cruises in the east, west and south Caribbean as well as the private island destination of the cruise line, Perfect day at CocoCay.
